Important Uniform Information
for the SCHOOL YEAR 2012-2013
Skort style The skort style for the winter uniform is mandatory for the classes of 2014, 2015 and 2016. Only the senior class may wear the former skirt style as long as it is in good condition and available at Flynn & O’Hara. Only the seniors have the option of wearing a skort.
Uniform Examination
Please take the time over the summer to examine your daughter’s complete uniform. It is very evident that most parents do this in preparation for the new school year. We are proud of our uniform and how our students look.
Please consider the following when evaluating these items:
Winter skort (skirt—seniors)/Summer
- Is it a comfortable fit? Is the monogram visible on the front?
-
Check buttons/zippers and fix if needed?
-
Hem no shorter than 4” above the knee?
Oxford and turtleneck golf shirt
- Are necklines frayed or torn? Any button replacement needed?
-
Buttons on oxford secure? Is the MSJA monogram visible?
Green long-sleeved sweater/vest
- Are there any holes, especially at the elbow?
-
Fraying at the cuff or around the neck?
Please replace these or repair them as needed
Socks & the Summer/Spring Uniform Tights & the Winter Uniform
- Plain, navy blue tights only are worn with the winter uniform.
-
Plain white knee socks that cover the ankle or white knee socks with the summer uniform.
School Shoes
- These must be purchased from Shoe Fitters. They must be dark brown or cordovan Penny loafers.
-
Do they still fit comfortably?
-
Do they need new soles or heels? Do they need to be sewn?
-
Please remove any marks or writing on the shoe.
-
No shoe lasts four years, so please make sure juniors’ and seniors’ shoes are in acceptable condition.

Parents of Rising Seniors
June 2012
Dear Parents of the Class of 2013,
Senior year is an exciting time for students as they begin to narrow college choices, visit schools, if feasible, and prepare college applications.
Last March, your daughter received her junior folder entitled, “College Planning Guide.” Hopefully, she is finding this to be helpful. This past spring we commented to many of your daughters that while there may be some anticipation surrounding the college admission process, as there always is with decisions, it may also be viewed as an opportunity for self-appraisal, reflection on goals and exploration. Seen in that light, the college search is a natural and appropriate part of her culminating year at the Mount. Perhaps the best way to keep college in proper perspective is to approach the process incrementally.
On the first day of school in her senior year your daughter will meet with the Guidance Department. We have attempted to compile important information that we will share with her. The senior book will be distributed in early September. We encourage you to attend a meeting in the Auditorium on Tuesday, September 18th, at 7 PM, when we will explain the college process at the Mount to you, the parents.
If we can make the application procedure a regular part of the senior year’s routine, it may neither preempt your student’s other involvements nor be neglected until crisis time. To that end, a planning calendar will be enclosed in your daughter’s senior book. We would encourage you to ask your daughter if she has filled out her Personal Information Sheet and emailed it to her counselor. The Personal Information Sheet can be found on Naviance and also on MSJA’s website under Guidance. This enables us to work on letters of recommendation over the summer. Thank you to the many students who have already given us their Personal Information Sheets.
It our hope that you continue to communicate with us. We will do our best to keep both student and parent informed of various possibilities in the decision making process.
Sincerely,
The Guidance Department
NB: We would encourage your daughter to register online at: www.collegeboard.com in order to take the October 6th SAT. We will receive paper registration forms in late August, which doesn’t give you much time to pick up the form and mail it. If your daughter has registered for the SAT before, she may also register over the telephone, at 1-800-SATSCORE (1-800-728-7267). Please be advised there is an additional fee to register via the telephone. If your daughter misses the October SAT, the test is offered again in November, December and January. These test dates are online here.
Parents of Rising Juniors
May 2012
Dear Parents of the Class of 2014,
Your daughter is now a junior. Along with this upper-class status comes the beginning of a challenging search for an appropriate college. One of the first items to address on this search is testing, more specifically, SATs. If interested, Princeton Review will offer classes on campus again this coming year. The Mount’s website currently has the dates for the fall sessions and a sign-up sheet.
The dates of the SAT and ACT tests are on line. All juniors (and sophomores) take the PSATs on Wednesday October 17th .
Our guidance department contains much useful information. This includes college catalogs, scholarship books, financial aid information and much more. We use Naviance as our software to assist students with the college process. This program has proven to be an immense help to our students. Your daughters were introduced to Naviance in sophomore guidance class.
Montgomery County Intermediate Unit #23 is continuing to offer its services to our school. This service is used to help improve a student’s reading comprehension and vocabulary. Another person helps improve a student's mathematic skills. It is free to your daughter. Write a note or call your daughter’s counselor in September to convey any interest in your daughter utilizing this program.
As a point of clarification, you may notice on your school calendar that a College Process presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18th . This presentation is targeted for senior parents and explains the nuts and bolts of the process specifically at the Mount. The night for juniors is October 25th . This night is geared specifically to juniors. This program is open to both daughters and parents. More information about this in late summer/early fall.
Have a safe and wonderful summer! See you in September!
